From operas to tone poems, Richard Strauss’ compositions tell a compelling story. Celebrate the varied repertoire of this great German composer through the prankster in Till Eulenspiegel and the complicated and comical love story in Der Rosenkavalier. Pianist Anton Nel joins the Orchestra for Strauss’ Burleske which includes playful themes, dramatic moments, and exuberant energy. The program begins with the Overture to The Wreckers, an opera by Ethel Smyth produced in 1903 by the Metropolitan Opera which remained for more than a century the only opera by a woman composer ever mounted by the company.
